Brian and Pauline Staff welcome you to Holmhead a former farmhouse which stands uniquely on the foundations of Hadrian's wall near the "Centre of Britain"
At the southwest corner of the Northumberland National Park.
It is half way between Edinburgh and York .and within an easy drive of the lake district, the heritage coast and the Scottish borders.
Hadrian's Wall is a World Heritage Site it crosses from coast to coast of Northern England for 73 Miles. You can visit long stretches of remaining wall; archaeological excavations of wall and of 8 of the remaining forts along the route, there are also 11 museums.
Most are open all year.
Holmhead is roughly equidistant from Edinburgh and York, on the Cumbrian Northumbrian border and near the Scottish border. Three miles from the exact 'Centre of Britain'.
It is set in a sheltered valley in the south west corner of England's most northerly National Park, in quiet fields yet less than a mile from Greenhead village on the A69 and B6318 junction.
It has, however, been adapted to a new role over the past few years: no longer a working farm, it is now the home of Pauline and Brian Staff, who take great pleasure in welcoming guests to this delightful old house, with the idea of sharing their knowledge (especially Roman) and enthusiasm for the area, with others. Formerly a tour guide, Pauline has studied archaeology and local history, specialising on Hadrians Wall, gaining a Diploma at Durham University.
Their object has been to provide the best of both worlds: the easy going friendliness of bed and breakfast in a family home, combined with the standards of comfort and cuisine usually found only in larger hotels. It is an approach which has gained the Staffs a fine reputation.
